MARIETTA, Ga. -- A pedestrian was hit by a CSX train at Marietta Square on Monday evening, and died shortly after.
According to David Baldwin of the Marietta Police Department, the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. in the Polk Street area, as the pedestrian was walking on the train tracks and was hit from behind.
Baldwin said the pedestrian was taken to Kennestone Hospital in critical condition, but did not survive. His identification has not been released, as next if kin has not been notified.
The train has been cleared from the scene, and the streets are now open.
