ATLANTA -- January marks the peak of the seasonal influenza period where many of us will contract the infectious bug.

The best way to prevent catching the flu is to make sure that you get your vaccinations each season. Flu shot are available in your local pharmacies such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.

These locations will most likely offer two types of vaccines, the regular flu shot and the nasal-spray flu vaccine. Both of these vaccines will protect against the three influenza viruses that researchers at the CDC suggests will be most common.

Annual flu shots are recommended for anyone 6 months and older, along with pregnant women and anyone who has a medical condition such as asthma, chronic lung disease and heart disease.
