GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- An 80-year-old Gainesville man was killed in a wrong-way driver accident on Interstate 985 in Hall County Tuesday morning.
The accident happened at around 6:40 a.m., and involved three cars and a tractor trailer.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Raymond Sanford Reed drove the wrong way on northbound I-985 and collided head-on with a Ford F-150.
The truck was then hit from behind by a Honda Civic. Wright said a tractor trailer then grazed Reed's Buick LeSabre.
Reed was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the Ford and Honda were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two children, ages 4 and 9, were in the Honda and were also briefly hospitalized, Wright said. All four injured have since been discharged.
The tractor trailer driver was not injured.
Northbound I-985 was shut down at the Highway 369 exit in Gainesville as police investigated the crash.
