RIVERDALE, Ga. -- Two young girls involved in a carjacking in Riverdale are alive and safe.
The incident happened at around 6:45 p.m. Sunday on Halligan Point near Old National Highway.
Fulton County Police Sgt. Scott McBride said 6-year-old Jaytura Sweeting and 5-year-old Jayla Sweeting were riding in a Jeep with their father when a man flagged them down and asked for a ride.
When the father refused, the suspect pulled him out of the Jeep and pointed a gun at him. The father tried to send the suspect away by screaming that there were young children in the car, McBride said
The suspect drove off with the sisters still inside the Jeep.
Shortly after, the Jeep was found idling with both girls inside, but police said there was no sign of the suspect. The Jeep was found on Ashington Court near Creel Road.
The suspect is still at large. Police describe him as a black man, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, wearing a red hoodie and gray shirt with red writing.
