A winter storm watch has been posted for a large portion of N Georgia for Friday morning for what could potentially prove to be an interesting storm.... As of right now here are the possibilities:
Worst Case: We have a freezing rain event Friday morning and there are serious travel problems
Best Case: We have nothing but rain and we just have a wet commute.
Most Likely: We see some sleet across the metro area early on Friday morning, as we go through the morning some of that could torn to freezing rain mainly north of the Atlanta metro area....
This is a developing situation that will need to be closely monitored over the next few das as this could, and hopefully will, change!
We have some very cold and shallow and shallow air on the march from Canada that will be moiving into the area late tomorrow and is forecasted to create a cold wedge across N Georgia starting late Thursday night. At the same time some very warm moist air at about 5,000 feet will start streaming in from the gulf of mexico overnight Thursday into Friday morning. As this air rises over that very shallow cold air sleet will begin to fall lightly spreading into the N Georgia area through Friday morning. Over a few hour period the air will warm enough in the mid levels, at the same time the cold air will get more shallow and colder at the same time to possibly see some of that sleet turn into freezing rain.... Look below for a full explanation, keep checking the blog and 11alive.com for this developing winter weather scenario.
On a scale of 1-10 I am giving this a 5 at this point in time.....
