Riverside, CA (Sports Network) - Christian Standhardinger posted a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors held on for a 72-68 win over the UC Riverside Highlanders in a Big West Conference collision at SRC Arena.
Brandon Spearman added 15 points, Vander Joaquim chipped in 10 and Jace Tavita handed out eight assists for Hawaii (12-9, 6-4 Big West) which has won two straight.
Chris Patton scored 13 points, Austin Quick added 12 off the bench and Josh Fox had an additional 10 for UC Riverside (5-16, 2-7) which has lost six of its last seven.
In the first half the Highlanders shot 53.6 percent from the field, including a 6-of-11 effort from beyond the arc, to take a 39-32 lead into the break. Hawaii shot just 41.9 percent in the opening period.
After halftime the Rainbow Warriors improved to 57.7 percent shooting while UC Riverside dropped to 46.2 percent. The teams were tied, 67-67, with 3:32 remaining after which Hawaii scored a quick four points to pull away for good as the Highlanders missed their last five field goal attempts.
The Rainbow Warriors had a 19-5 edge in points off turnovers while outscoring the Highlanders 32-2 in the paint.
