Berkeley, CA (Sports Network) - Allen Crabbe led four players in double figures with 15 points as the California Golden Bears edged out the Oregon State Beavers, 71-68, in a Pac-12 conference battle at Haas Pavilion.
With the win California (12-8, 4-4 Pac-12) head coach Mike Montgomery earned his 100th win at the helm for the Golden Bears. Justin Cobbs scored 14 points and handed out seven assists and David Kravish and Richard Solomon each added 12 points for California which had lost two of three entering play.
Roberto Nelson had a game-high 25 points to pace Oregon State (11-10, 1-7). Joe Burton did a bit of everything with 14 points to go along with eight rebounds and eight assists. Ahmad Starks added 12 points and Devon Collier chipped in 10 on just 5-of-13 shooting.
It was Oregon State that led, 41-33, at halftime. The Beavers shot a scorching 60 percent from the field while the Golden Bears hung around by shooting 46.7 percent while hitting five shots from 3-point range.
In the second half California improved to 51.6 percent shooting while Oregon State dipped to 33.3 percent. With the game tied, 64-64, with 3:35 remaining the Beavers took a 66-64 lead on a Joe Burton Jumped. However the Golden Bears scored the next five points to take the lead for good.
The teams were even on points in the paint (32-32) but Oregon State had the 36-29 edge in rebounds. California outscored the Beavers, 27-12, from 3-point range.
