BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- The city official who was arrested in the case of a 13-month-old boy's shooting death has surrendered on charges stemming from a racketeering indictment in a neighboring county.
Brunswick city commissioner and mayor pro tem James Henry Brooks Sr., surrendered at the Camden County Jail Monday.
Brooks' lawyer, Alan David Tucker, said he's working toward a bail agreement with the District Attorney.
Brooks is accused of violating his oath of office and using his position to influence police department hiring procedures, and issuance of liquor licenses and permits.
He was arrested last week on charges of obstructing an officer and influencing a witness after stepping between police and the mother of a shooting suspect when they tried speaking with her after a court appearance.
