SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Authorities in Snellville attempted to arrest a woman for shoplifting at Home Depot and got more than they had bargained for.
According to Snellville Police, the woman, Demetra Clay, 51, engaged in a physical fight with loss prevention staff at the store before she got into a fight with an officer.
Clay was placed under arrest and somehow ended up in the front seat of the police cruiser.The suspect then rammed the cruiser into a pole about 50 ft. from the store. Another Snellville officer responding to the scenetried to stop Clay but ended up pinned between the car and the sidewalk.
The suspectcontinued tofight and biteauthoritieswho tried to subdue her in another patrol vehicle.Duringtransport, authorities say Clay attempted towrap a seatbelt around her neck andbeat her head up against thewindow of the cruiser.
Clay was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. Charges expected in this case, include: misdemeanor shoplifting, battery, theft by shoplifting,interference with gov't property, felony obstruction andfelony assault.
The officer harmed in this incident is expected to make a full recovery.
