LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Authorities said a tractor-trailer driver was killed when his rig slammed into a carry-out on Scenic Highway Wednesday morning.

The driver, 66 year old Donald Samples of Snellville died from his injuries on scene, according to Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter.

Ritter said the truck, a black 2012 Kenworth T660, was headed northbound on Scenic Highway near Essex Drive at about 10:15 a.m., when it crossed the southbound lanes and into a strip mall where it crashed into a restaurant and a hair salon.

Those two businesses closed for a short time following the crash.

There was no indication as to whether Samples suffered from some medical condition that made him lose control of the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation, Ritter said. Authorities believe drugs, nor alcohol played a part in the crash.

No other injuries were reported.
