GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Hall County School District teacher and coach Tony Wilson resigned from his position at Johnson High School on Wednesday afternoon, following an arrest for public indecency.
Since 2007, Wilson was head coach of Johnson's baseball team and taught Physical Education, said Gordon Higgins, Director of Community Relations and Athletics for the school. Wilson faces a misdemeanor charge of public indecency following the May 24 incident.
The letter of resignation from Wilson was dated for Wednesday, March 29, which coincides with the final day of his contract for the 2013-2014 school year.
Higgins said the Hall County Board of Education will act on Wilson's resignation letter at their next meeting, set for June 3.
That incident prompted the charges, and took place Friday afternoon in a classroom at Johnson High School during a teacher workday. The last day for Hall County students was the day before, May 23.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Wilson exposed himself to a female teacher after school hours, but no students were in the classroom.
Higgins said Wilson was placed on administrative leave while the Hall County Sheriff's Department investigates. The school is looking for a quick resolution to Wilson's continued status as an employee once the investigation is finished.
When authorities first went to Wilson's home on Wednesday to serve the warrant, he was not home.
