ATLANTA, Ga. -- With no deal in place to secure the south site for the new Falcons stadium, the door to the north site was opened today by the Georgia World Congress Center Committee.
The north site sits about a half mile site of the south, near the corner of Ivan Allen Drive and Northside Drive.
Next week the full board will vote whether to allow the Falcons to begin work to figure out if the north site is good for a stadium.
There is no deal with the two churches that need to be bought on the south site. The deadline is August 1st.
In a statement late this afternoon, Falcons owner Arthur Blank says, 'We, along with the Authority and Mayor, have no interest in forcing these churches to move, and we have been public and forthright in saying so. If the churches determine that selling their property is not in their best interest, we will respect their positions and build the new stadium on the north site.'
