ATLANTA -- Many fans were upset when they arrived at the Georgia Dome on Thursday for the Falcons first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a new policy.
The NFL recently enacted a rule that "prohibitsbags that are not clear and that are larger than a gallon ziploc bag." And many women were turned around at the door -- with their purses in tow, of course.
According to the Associated Press, the NFL only permits bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC that don't exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, including one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags.
The Georgia Dome set up a makeshift "purse check-in" outside the Dome for fans to check their purses and exchange them for plastic "NFL safe" bags.
One fan was apprehensive to leave her designer bag at the kiosk but she took a photo of the attendant manning the stand and said she was reassured her purse would be at the kiosk upon her return -- since she had photographic evidence of the transaction.
Most fans approved of the new procedures but some wished "they had been aware earlier."
