MARIETTA, Ga. -- A fire at the Marquis View Apartments Thursday night left some families with no homes or food.

The fire sparked around 10:30. One person was injured.

Early Friday morning, Red Cross volunteers had come to the rescue for five families. They worked overnight to get the now homeless families some emergency resources.

Marquis View is located on Franklin Road, just north of Delk Road. The fire made the 10-unit apartment building unlivable, bringing heavy smoke and water damage.

The five families include 12 adults and seven children. Sherry Nicholson, spokeswoman for the Red Cross said lodging and food was provided to the families early Friday morning. One family received clothing.

Throughout Friday, volunteers will continue to give the families support and help them think through the next steps of recovery, Nicholson said. Red Cross will provide referrals and make sure emergency needs are met.

Firefighters continue to investigate the fire's cause.
