They gathered at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church for his memorial service.
Klusmann graduated from the police academy in April to join his brother on the DeKalb Police force.
Klusmann, 31, was killed early Saturday morning Aug. 10 when his patrol car ran off the road and hit a tree while chasing as suspect. It happened near the intersection of DeKalb Medical Parkway and Heritage Park Trail around 2:45 a.m.
Officer Klusmann's car was the only one involved in the accident. Investigators aren't sure what made him veer off the road.
Dekalb Police Chief Cedric Alexander said Klusmann had just taken a suspect's information during a traffic stop when the person drove off. Klusmann started a chase, but it was called off per department policy. When another officer spotted the car, Klusmann started to respond again. That's when his vehicle ran off the roadway.
