MUNCIE, Ind. -- For thousands of students who are heading off to college, many for the first time, bills can quickly add up.

For incoming freshman Markus Burden, his first semester will cost a lot less. In fact, it is now paid for thanks to his winning half-court shot.

He made the shot, which gave him an entire semester of free tuition at Ball State University, worth $11,000.

Ball State University's Welcome Week annual half-court shot challenge has become a tradition.

Burden has been the only student in school history to sink the shot and get his tuition paid for.
