ATLANTA -- An escalator at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport caught fire Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out at around 5:20 a.m. It started in the motor of an escalator leading from the airport train to Concourse T.
Airport spokesman Reese McCranie said two firefighters were injured after they slipped in water while trying to put out the fire. They were treated at the scene.
The fire filled the train level of Concourse T with smoke. McCranie said passengers on the train were safely rerouted to other concourses.
City of Atlanta spokeswoman Janet Ward said the fire was put out before 6:30 a.m. Passengers briefly experienced longer security waits, but the airport began running normally soon after the fire was extinguished.
