ATLANTA -- An Atlanta police officer was involved in a shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon in southwest Atlanta.

It took place around 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot across from Cleveland Avenue Elementary.

The school was briefly placed on lockdown, but all students and faculty have been accounted for and are safe, authorities said.

The school is scheduled to be dismissed at 2:30 p.m., and will continue with normal dismissal for all students except those living in the Summerdale Commons apartment complex.

Students who live in the nearby Summerdale Commons community will have to remain in school while that area is still shut down by Atlanta police officers. The school is working to determine exactly how many students live there.

The principal of Cleveland Avenue Elementary will call parents of students who live in Summerdale Apartments to let them know about the alternate dismissal procedures planned by the school.

Atlanta Public Schools tweeted that a robocall and email was sent to all Cleveland Avenue Elementary parents with details on the incident.

Cleveland Avenue Elementary is located near the intersection of Cleveland Road SW and Old Hapeville Road SW, just west of Interstate 75.

The officer, uninjured, shot a man who was taken to Grady. There was no immediate word on his condition.
