He was found guilty of stabbing 32-year-old John Ray to death in May of 2004.
Ray's body was found in his Browns Mill Road home after he didn't show up for work at the Fulton County Conflict Defender's Office. Prosecutors said Ray had been beaten and stabbed, and was found with his hands tied behind his back.
Investigators said Jackson stole Ray's car and led police on a brief chase that ended when he crashed the vehicle and ran.
The case went cold for six years. Jackson was finally arrested in 2011 when blood collected at the crash site was linked to him.
Jackson and the victim were acquaintances, according to the investigation.
