SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah celebrity cook Paula Deen's son Jamie Deen had his first solo book signing in the port city on Thursday and crowds wrapped around the block to get a book signed and for a glimpse of his famous mother.

Paula Deen made her first publicized public appearance in the city since the public relations nightmare that followed her admission in a court deposition to using a racial slur, reports the Savannah Morning News.

Faithful fans were already lining up at 10 a.m. for the book signing that began at 1 p.m., the paper said.

Supporter Rayma Staser told the paper, "We've always been fans of Paula. The news people shouldn't have done that to her. We've all made mistakes in the past, and this whole thing got out of hand."
