ATLANTA -- Georgia's sales tax holiday on ENERGY STAR and WaterSense products begins Friday and runs through Sunday, Oct. 6.

It's designed to give people a financial incentive to use energy efficient products that can save money and protect the environment.

During the sales tax holiday, the following items will be exempt from sales tax if they have the ENERGY STAR label and a purchase price of $1,500 or less per item:

•Air conditioners
•Ceiling fans
•Clothes washers
•Dehumidifiers
•Dishwashers
•Doors
•Fluorescent light bulbs
•Refrigerators
•Windows

The following products will also be exempt from sales tax if they have a WaterSense label and a purchase price of $1,500 or less per item:

•Bathroom sink faucets
•Faucet accessories (such as aerators)
•High-efficiency toilets
•High-efficiency urinals
•Showerheads
•Weather- or sensor-based irrigation controllers

The sales tax exemption does not apply to ENERGY STAR or WaterSense products purchased for trade, business or resale.

There's another financial incentive to fix up your home before the end of the year.

A $500 tax credit for energy efficient upgrades was extended last year as part of the American Taxpayer Relief Act. It's set to expire at the end of the year.

Claims are only accepted for your primary home, and there are eligibility requirements based on when any previous claims were made.
