ATLANTA (AP) - Clark Atlanta University has used a $300,000 grant from the United Methodist Church for building renovations of McPheeters-Dennis Hall.
University officials said this week that the money was used to replace the building's original roof, which is more than 50 years old. The building houses several academic departments, including mathematics, African-American studies and history.
Dr. Cynthia Bond-Hopson with the United Methodist Church's Black College Fund & Ethnic Concerns says a "a highly functional building is an essential part of the educational process."
Other renovations include technological, mechanical and electrical upgrades.
University officials say the United Methodist Church has given almost $1.3 million this year to Clark Atlanta University through its support of the university's annual fund, student scholarships, building and grounds improvements and graduate studies program.
