ATLANTA -- With stores opening on Thanksgiving for the first time ever, it's changed the habits of some people on a day spent with family.

While this Thanksgiving was the coldest in a century, that didn't stop people from enjoying the holiday with events, food and of course, shopping.

Kmart opened Thursday morning at 6 a.m. with many stores opening Thursday night and staying open through Friday.

Thursday night at 6 p.m. Macy's at Lenox held its annual Great Tree Lighting, this year outside in the parking lot.

Some people were up early, but not for shopping or cooking... rather for running. People braved sub-freezing temps for the 5K and 10K Gobble Jog in Marietta. And hundreds showed up for the Atlanta half marathon, including one in shorts.
