MARIETTA, Ga. -- Two people are dead after crashing their car in Cobb County Wednesday morning.

The wreck happened at around 5:15 a.m. on South Cobb Drive at Westside Drive in Marietta.

Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said Marietta police officers tried to pull over a black 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS on Sandtown Road. The driver sped off. Pierce said police did not chase the car.

A few minutes later, police learned the Camaro had left the road, crossed a parking lot and plunged down a ravine.

Both the driver, 28-year-old Marquis D. Parker, and his 31-year-old passenger, Fernando J. Edwards, were ejected from the car. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Pierce said speed, alcohol and failure to use seat belts were all factors in the crash.
