(USA Today) -- Dave Madden, who played constantly agitated band manager Reuben Kincaid on 1970s TV show The Partridge Family, has died, reports TMZ.

He was 82.

TMZ says the actor died of congestive heart and kidney failure Thursday morning after a long illness. He lived in Fruit Cove, Fla., with his wife.

Madden, who was born in Canada, started his career in stand-up comedy. He went on to appear on TV shows including Laugh-In, Love American Style, Happy Days andStarsky & Hutch. He had a recurring role as a customer in Mel's Diner on Alice.

In 2009, he published a memoir, Reuben on Wry: The Memoirs of Dave Madden.
