MARIETTA, Ga. -- A family in Marietta has filed a lawsuit over the death of a student at Auburn University.
Lauren Burk was kidnapped on campus and murdered in 2008. Her killer was later sentenced to death.
The family says their daughter might be alive if Auburn had campus police.
Their lawyer says the school got rid of the campus police in the early 2000's to save money. He says the school ahs spent millions on football coaches, but is unwilling to spend a smaller amount of money to have a campus police force.
The family is asking for $1 million, but says the main goal behind the lawsuit is get the university to bring back the campus police force.
