HABERSHAM COUNTY, GA - For more than four decades, the small Bible Landmark Church off Old Cleveland Road near Cornelia has gone about its heavenly business with no known human enemies.

But early Saturday morning, someone tried to burn it down.

"When trouble comes your way, you remain confident," Pastor Betty Hooper reassured her small congregation during Sunday morning's service.

She told them God would protect them no matter what happens.

Fortunately, their sanctuary building is still undamaged, but just before dawn Saturday flames destroyed one end of their separate fellowship building and gutted much of the rest of it.

Members told 11Alive News they have no idea who would wish them harm.

While there is sadness in their hearts, there is no hatred.

"If someone did do it, we just pray that God will get hold of their heart...and we forgive them," fellow Pastor Ronald Hooper said, choking back emotion.

The Georgia Fire Marshal Marshal's Office has ruled the blaze arson and is offering up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information is asked to call the state Arson Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.

Meanwhile, the small church has no insurance to repair the damage.

Contributions may be sent to Bible Landmark Church care of Pastors Betty and Ronald Hooper at 210 May Street, Cornelia, Georgia, 30531.
