ALPHARETTA, Ga -- Alpharetta police are hoping surveillance video will help them catch two daring burglars who smashed a jewelry case at a Costco on Windward Parkway.
The video shows the two men, their faces covered with hoodies, standing by the jewelry case and suddenly smashing it with a hammer. Both men grabbed several thousands of dollars worth of high end jewelry before they ran from the store. It happened in less than ten seconds according to police.
It was daring because it happened at 7:40PM while many customers were in the discount warehouse.
Alpharetta police spokesperson George Gordon said detectives spent hours scouring store surveillance video and found two men casing the jewelry counter nine hours before the smash and grab. Police are calling the two men, whose faces are exposed, persons of interest.
"They're persons of interest now based off the photos because we can't see who's under the hoodies during the actual crime," Gordon said. "But based on the information that we've gathered these very well could be the individuals we're looking for."
Alpharetta police said the two smash and grab burglars may be connected to another burglary at another Costco in Cobb County.
Anyone with information about the two suspects is asked to call the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety tip line at 678-297-6307.
