ATLANTA -- A new severe weather task force appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal met for the first time on Tuesday.

The task force, which includes 11Alive's Chesley McNeil, was formed to prevent a mess like last month's SnowJam from happening again. The force is made up of people from various entities including the National Weather Service, Georgia Power, business leaders, highway authorities, state law and school officials.

Deal gave the task force 30 days to come up with recommendations to help prevent weather emergencies.

According to McNeil, the task force discussed adding ground sensor, which would placed along highways and give readings of what the ground temperatures are.

The second item discussed was the budgetary impact of storms and how much money is needed to be prepared for them.

Thirdly, the group talked about bringing in social media experts to help communicate with the public more efficiently.

The group will meet again on March 4.
