ATLANTA -- Crews are assessing the damage after a car crashed into a home in Atlanta on Tuesday morning.
Veronica Terry said that she was sleeping upstairs in her Sand Creek Drive home when she heard a loud noise around 8:30 a.m.
"I heard the alarm went off, so I knew something hit the house," said Terry.
Police say DeAndre Jackson plowed a vehicle into the den of the home. No one was in the room at the time.
It appeared that the vehicle left the road, snapped a utility line, nearly missing a telephone pole before making impact with the house.
The homeowner said that she ended up consoling the driver.
"He was so upset, and so I was trying to comfort him and myself at the time because my house was just destroyed," Terry said.
Terry said that the driver told him he must have dozed off.
Jackson was charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.
