ATLANTA -- A 2-year-old girl died Tuesday afternoon after being struck by avan just off ofMetropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta.
The child was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and later died, according to Officer John Chafee of the Atlanta Police Department.
Police said the girl was behind a daycare van which had stopped in the area to drop off other children. The girl was not one of the children who had been dropped off, police said.
They said when the van backed up, it struck the child.
Family members said the girl's name was Brandy. Cards and stuffed animals paid tribute to a young life taken too soon.
"We're going to miss her very much," said the toddler's grandfather, Bennie Jackson. "She had a sweet personality."
The driver of the daycare van did remain on the scene, according to police. It's not clear if the driver will face charges.
