ATLANTA -- Dozens of postal workers protested outside of a Staples store in northeast Atlanta on Tuesday.
Members of the American Postal Workers Union and local activists demonstrated outside the store on Peachtree Road in northeast Atlanta. They say the U.S. Postal Service worked out a deal with Staples to open postal counters in 82 Staples stores around the country.
The protesters say the move puts the safety of the mail in jeopardy, and could lead to the closing of post offices.
Protesters say Georgia is one of four states where the service is being offered right now.
After a trial period, the Postal Service reportedly could expand the program to 1,600 stores nationwide.
