A Rockmart neighborhood was evacuated Thursday morning after a mortgage company inspector noticed suspicious material in a home.
According to Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells, the material was an old case of dynamite and was removed from a home in the Callaway Estates subdivision.
While no one was living at the house, it once belonged to a professional blaster who had worked for a construction company, however, he died several months ago.
Even though storing dynamite in a residential home is a felony, no charges are expected since the former owner is deceased.
The dynamite appeared to be old and the box fell apart when moved.
It was taken away by a bomb squad unit from neighboring Floyd Co. who intended to detonate it at an undisclosed location.
