Living your financial life "in the middle" is one of the keys to happy retirement.
ATLANTA -- Living your financial life "in the middle" is one of the keys to happy retirement, according to certified financial planner Wes Moss.
Moss is out with a new book, You Can Retire Sooner Than You Think.
He sat down with 11Alive's Jennifer Leslie to focus on key decisions in planning your retirement.
For his book, Moss surveyed more than 1,300 retirees nationwide and found the happiest ones don't pinch pennies.
Instead, he said they live in the middle.
"it's not as though they only shop at Walmart or Good Will," Moss said. "But they don't go to Neiman Marcus or Saks. They're masters of the middle. They love Kohl's and Macy's. They don't deprive themselves, but they're conscious of a good deal."
Moss also found that the happiest retirees avoid cheap restaurant chains.
Their favorites are Ruth's Chris Steak House and Olive Garden.
What's more, they don't drive BMWs.
Moss discovered that the most popular car brand for happy retirees is Lexus.
