ATLANTA -- This year, the Networks of 11Alive through the Gannett Foundation have awarded grants to 21 local area nonprofit organizations.
WXIA-TV President and General Manager, John Deushane said, "The Networks of 11Alive strive every day to celebrate the human spirit through our on air and on line properties, showcasing the amazing work being done in our community helping others. We are honored and thrilled to be able, through the Gannett Foundation, to support these local organizations that are making such a difference for all of us who call Atlanta home."

The twenty-one organizations are:
Action Ministries -- Funds will support the Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program which ensures that no Atlanta child will go hungry by providing daily lunches every summer for children in the free or reduced school lunch programs.
Atlanta Habitat for Humanity -- Donated funds will support affordable home building and homeowner education programs.
Atlanta Union Mission -- Funds will support the Atlanta Day Homeless Shelter for Women & Children.
Be the Match Foundation -- Funds will go toward increasing the number of bone marrow donors on college campuses.
Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta -- Funds will support youth intervention and mentoring programs which match middle school boys with positive role models.
Camp Sunshine -- The grant will support Family Camp weekends, which give the families of children with cancer the opportunity to connect in a natural fun way with other families sharing the same experiences.
Circle of Friends Celebrating Life (Living Water for Girls) -- Atlanta has one of the highest rate of child sex trafficking in the country. This grant will support victims of sex trafficking in the Atlanta area.
Children's Restoration Network, Inc. -- Donated funds will help provide mentoring services for over 380 homeless children throughout the year.
CHRIS Kids - Funds will support the JourneyZ program, which provides safe family homes for abused and neglected children, and encourages responsibility and accountability through community service and other projects.
Georgia Agape -- Funds will provide daycare aid to foster care families in need.
Hands on Atlanta -- A grant will help fund Partners in Education: a program that helps at-risk kids with school and reading readiness by providing tutoring in a variety of subjects.
Junior Achievement Georgia -- Funds are requested in support of the 30,000 students at JA BizTown and Finance Park, promoting financial literacy among middle school kids.
Keep Georgia Beautiful -- Donated funds will go toward environmental support and litter prevention, recycling and water resource management.
Literacy Action -- Funds to support basic education classes for undereducated adults, helping them to break out of the cycle of illiteracy and poverty.
Safe America Foundation -- Donated funds will provide seminars to educate and support military veterans making the transition back into society.
Senior Connections -- This grant will help to educate elderly diabetic patients at Grady Hospital with information on eating healthy and managing their disease.
Special Olympics, Georgia -- The grant will support Camp Inspire, where 60 teens with intellectual disabilities attend camp with 35 non-disabled youth leaders, giving them a chance to learn from each other.
United Methodist Children's Home -- Funds requested will help support homeless families with children as they move from dependency to self-sufficiency.
UNCF -- Grant will fund Campaign Emergency Student Aid (CESA), which supports and encourages local students to stay in college.
youthSpark, Inc. -- The grant will support programs which help young girls, ages 11 to 17, who are at risk of becoming victims of sex trafficking.
Woodruff Arts Center -- Funds will support the Center's core functions for the Atlanta community: the High Museum, the Symphony, the Alliance and Arts for Learning.
