SMYRNA, Ga. -- Smyrna Police confirmedfor 11Alive News that thieves have been targeting bank customers, using a high-tech device known as a 'skimmer' to steal credit and debit card information.

A police spokesman said federal agents with the Secret Service are investigating the thefts.

Police said one of the ATMs targeted by the thieves was a Chase bank branch located on South Cobb Drive.

Investigators said skimmers are typically attached to the front of an ATM, enabling the thieves to access customers' credit and debit card information.

A spokesperson for Chase urged their customers to monitor their accounts and immediately report any suspicious activity.
