(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) ATHENS, Ga. --A $30 million medical office park is being planned near Athens, a growing healthcare hub.
Resurgence Park, located in Oconee County, will include up to 10 buildings including medical office buildings, an assisted living facility and a hotel, according to a Development of Regional Impact filing.
The 30-acre development will be geared toward physician practices and could include ambulatory surgery centers, said Edward R. Nichols, vice president at Nichols Land and Investment Company, the park's developer.
"There's some medical growth on Georgia State Route 316 on the western side of Athens," Nichols said. "We've had several doctors that (are) interested in having their practices there on that property."
Resurgence Park is located about an hour drive from the retiree rich Lake Oconee area. Lake Oconee, in Greene County, has become a second-home mecca. Housing developments have mushroomed around it in Greene, Putnam and Morgan counties. Greene County is home to the 14,000-acre Reynolds Plantation, which includes the 251-room Ritz-Carlton Lodge that opened in 2002.
Construction on Resurgence Park is expected to open early next month, with the first tenant - a cancer dermatologist - expected to open his practice next April.
