The Georgia Secretary of State's office reports a higher-than-usual early voter turnout. More than 250,000 voters cast ballots before Election Day.

Political analysts point to the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax as the driving force behind the high summer turnout. The TSPLOST would collect an additional 1% sales tax to fund a list of transportation projects. Each region within Georgia has a separate list to fund local projects.

You can hear from both sides of the TSPLOST argument. The leading groups that have come out for and against the tax are Citizens for Transportation Mobility (Unite Atlanta) and The Transportation Leadership Coalition. Voters in the Brookhaven area of DeKalb County will vote on cityhood. If the measure passes, its 84,000 citizens would provide their own city services for police, code enforcement, zoning, park services, and local government. Brookhaven Yes andNo City Brookhaven have been debating the divisive issue.
