CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A reported lighting strike Monday evening knocked out power to the Bartow County 911 call center forcing operators to move to a temporary location and to route emergency calls through the Polk County 911 center.

A Polk County 911 supervisor said they have handled several hundred calls from Bartow residents since 11:50 p.m.and although the extra call load is "pretty overwhelming, weare keeping up with it".

The Bartow County operators are using cell phones and portable radios to communicate with their officers.

There is no word on when power will be restored to the crippled call center.
