ATLANTA -- You've heard the warnings for months. Many say, according to the ancient Mayan calendar, the world will end on December 21, 2012.

All day Thursday, the internet was ablaze with "end of the world" chatter. On Twitter, "end of the world confession" was trending nationwide. And aFacebook page offering doomsday tips had collected more than 15 thousand "likes."

But scientists say, don't expect to see the end just yet.

"There is nothing out there, no evidence, nothing that scientists know of that would indicate something catastrophic is going to happen tomorrow," said Jose Santamaria, executive director of the Tellus Science Museum.

Still, many Atlantans are planning special events on December 21st. Fernbank Science Museum will hold a Mayan Prophecies program Thursday evening. Or you can party the night away at the "End of the World" party in the Andrews Entertainment District.

The Lake Clair Community Land Trust will also host a Mayan Fire Ceremony, beginning at 8pm.
