HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Mary Neville Gossett, a Henry County teacher has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student at Locust Grove High School.

According to authorities, the relationship was consensual. However, Gossett, 28, was charged because she was a teacher.

The Henry County Sheriff's Department says the relationship lasted less than a month and the encounters took place off of school property.

Gossett turned herself into authorities Friday afternoon after being indicted by a grand jury on Thursday. She bonded out on a $10,000 bond.

The Henry County school system was first notified of the allegations and after an investigation turned their information over to the Sheriff's Department who continued the investigation.

Gossett resigned as a teacher during the school system's investigation. Her spokespersons released a statement:

"We were just recently made aware of a situation involving a teacher and a student and took immediate action to investigate. Upon the conclusion of our investigation, all information was turned over to the appropriate authorities who are now continuing the investigation on their end. At this time we can confirm that the teacher in question no longer works for our school system."
