DALLAS, Ga. -- The Paulding County man who's charged with murdering his 12-year-old son was in juvenile court on Tuesday to attend a custody hearing for his daughter.
Shayaa Forbes, who remains in custody without bond, was dressed in a jail jumpsuit when he walked into the courtroom.
Forbes is accused in the beating death of his son Eric. He called 911 on October 11 to claim his son drowned in the bathtub.
Tuesday's hearing focused on custody of Forbes' 10-year-old daughter, who remains in the care of the Paulding County Department of Family and Children's Services.
The girl's estranged mother was also in court.
11Alive News filed a request with the judge to cover the hearing, but the attorney for DFACS argued it was in the child's best interest to close the hearing to the media and the public.
"We can limit the hurt, the confusion and the drama for this surviving child," said Special Assistant Attorney General Joseph Justice.
Juvenile Court Judge Sandra W. Miller ordered the hearing closed.
She said no decisions about the child's permanent custody would be made Tuesday.
