LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga -- An accident captured on video is part of the reason commuters are pushing for a traffic light near two Gwinnett County schools.
Alan Lampert was taking his son to Mountain View High School near the intersection of Braselton Highway and Lena Carter Road when the camera he keeps mounted on the windshield of his car captured the wreck.
"I feel dread when I'm driving through that intersection," said Lampert. "I call it the meat grinder."
The state Department of Transportation and representatives of the Gwinnett County DOT are waiting for the results of the most recent traffic count. When that is complete, the agencies will discuss what options they have to make the intersection safer.
Five previous traffic counts did not meet federal standards that would allow a traffic light at the intersection.
11Alive's Commuter Dude provided the state DOT with details of the accident, where a 17-year-old turned left in front of an oncoming car. Jerry Carnes sat down with those representatives to show them video of other incidents at the intersection.
The DOT has also considered the number of accidents that a traffic light could have prevented.
