CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Cherokee County authorities say a man try to lure a 12-year-old boy into his truck by telling the child that his father was in the hospital.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the boy told deputies that he was walking home after getting off the school bus on Flint Drive Wednesday when a man in a black Dodge pickup truck drove up. The man told the child that his father was in the hospital and told him to get in the truck so that he could take him there.

The boy told the man he had to talk to his mom first and ran home. The suspect then reportedly drove out of the subdivision, according to deputies.

The man was described as middle-aged with gray hair and scruffy facial hair. The black Dodge pickup reportedly had damage to the rear driver side door.

No residents remembered seeing the truck, but investigators were able to get images from a camera on the bus. A Dodge pickup can be seen parked near the bus stop that day.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call 911.
