SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A dog rescued earlier this year has made a remarkable recovery.

Lori Huster found the stray dog left for dead on the side of the road on Jan. 26. He was badly injured and in desperate need of surgery.

Huster brought the dog to The Village Vets in Decatur and named him "Mutt Muffin."

The Angels Among Us Pet Rescue raised thousands of dollars to recover the costs of the surgery for Mutt Muffin. Lori and a friend began the drive out to Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Sandy Springs so that Mutt Muffin could have the surgery he needed.

Unfortunately, they left at just the wrong time. It was the day of the "snowjam" that left motorists stranded on the road for hours. A series of fortunate events followed and Lori was able to get Mutt Muffin to the clinic, which, somehow, had been able to stay open during the snowjam, and vets performed the surgery just in time.

Recovery and rehab was slow. But nearly three months later, Mutt Muffin has made great strides, as the picture shows. He's been adopted by foster parents and is now able to run again.
