GILMER COUNTY, Ga. -- The initial police report filed after an alleged rape outlines what a female student told officers took place at an after prom party in Gilmer County.
The alleged rape happened at a cabin at the Coosawattee River Resort in Ellijay sometime between between May 10 and May 11.
The police report lists the victim and five witnesses, willing to initially step forward and talk about what happened.
Investigators say there's still a lot they still don't know. That's because police say almost every one of the two dozen people at the party were drinking and many, including the victim, claim not to remember much about that night.
In the report, the 18-year-old girl says around 2 a.m. Sunday, she "passed out in the upstairs bathroom" of a home in the Coosawatee River Resort. It's a home the students, mostly from Gordon County and Calhoun High School, had rented to hang out after prom.
"They all -- or at least nearly all -- had been drinking alcohol, so it's kind of a sketchy picture that we're having to piece together, so that's why it's taking a while to get all those folks interviewed," Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson said.
Further complicating the investigation is the fact that most of these students live in Gordon county, but the party and alleged attack were in Gilmer County.
Nicholson says he was notified Sunday afternoon by a hospital where the girl had gone to be treated. The victim says she had been raped by "multiple men" but at the time of the initial report, wouldn't, or couldn't, say by whom.
