CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- More than 200 dogs seized from a suspected puppy mill are being offered for adoption in Cherokee County on Saturday, August 23.

The group includes both adults and puppies and feature various breeds including Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers and poodles as well as some mixed breeds.

Staff members and volunteers are busy getting the dogs ready for Saturday's 9 a.m. event. The dogs are getting baths, spaying and neutering and more.

"We're going to microchip them, get them vaccinated," said Director Susan Garcia. She said there has been enormous public interest in adopting both the puppies and adult dogs even though some may have health or socialization issues.

"We're going to tell people the different issues the different dogs have. There will be some medical issues we'll need to explain to people," she said.

Those interested in adopting must pre-register and pre-pay $100 dollars at 9 a.m. Saturday. The money will be refunded to potential owners who don't find a dog.
