BUFORD, Ga – After his wife was involved in two fender benders in just 30 days, Steve Davis is pushing for a traffic light at the intersection in front of their neighborhood.
Gwinnett County has agreed to conduct a second traffic study at Braselton Highway and Lena Carter Road near two schools.
Davis posted his video camera near the intersection, and captured several drivers making a risky left turn out of his neighborhood, darting in front of a line of cars turning toward Mountain View High School. Another driver trying to avoid congestion at the intersection makes a U-turn in the middle of the highway.
"Somebody's going to get hurt or killed," said Davis. "We're terrified of that."
Both roads are busy with traffic making it to the high school and Twin Rivers Middle School.
Gwinnett County has conducted several traffic studies. The most recent look at congestion and accident data didn't meet the state DOT's standards for a traffic light.
But Davis insists the timing of that study didn't give the DOT a complete picture.
"It happened last December when the schools were empty," said Davis. "No kids in school."
Commuter Dude joined with Davis in asking Gwinnett County to perform another traffic study. The county has agreed, and said the results will be passed to the state DOT in a couple of weeks.
