BUFORD, Ga. -- The American Legion has won its battle against Buford City Schools.
The district had voted to take its land by eminent domain if the veteran's group didn't agree to sell it for $1.8 million. But an appraisal done by the American Legion and later a court appointed attorney, put the value of the property at closer to $4.5 million.
The group has used the property for events and fundraisers for nearly 66 years and vowed to fight.
The city attorney said in a letter on Wednesday that the district has decided to go in a different direction.
