FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities arrested a man after he allegedly drove down the street with a dog tied to the back of his truck.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, a witness called 911 after seeing a German Shepherd tied to a pick-up truck driving down Ronald Reagan Blvd. near SR 41 around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

An investigator with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office saw the truck about two minutes after the 911 call. The investigator stopped the vehicle. Other deputies responded and took the dog to a veterinarian. The dog was treated for injuries to its front paws and bruising to its neck.

Authorities arrested 41-year-old Miguel Lechuga Sanchez of Cumming, Ga. He's charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license and animal cruelty. He was taken to Forsyth County Detention Center, where he remained as of Wednesday night. His bond has been set at $4680.50, according to the sheriff's office.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office posted this update on its Facebook page Thursday:

We know we have such a caring community from the enormous amount of calls and offers to adopt the German Shepherd involved in yesterday's incident. The dog is still being treated at an animal hospital and will remain there for now. The dog is not available for adoption at this time. Thank you everyone for the caring offers to help this dog. If anything changes with this in the weeks to come, we will let everyone know.
